750,000 US Xbox 360 consoles sold during Black Friday week

Microsoft has been throwing out some big numbers today. Earlier, it revealed that 25 million people were actively using its Outlook.com service, and?later in the day it said that it has sold a total of 40 million licenses for Windows 8.

Now, Microsoft's Larry Hryb posted on his Major Nelson website that Microsoft sold 750,000 units of its Xbox 360 console during the week of November 18th, which includes Black Friday, in the US. He also claims that during that same week, the number of Xbox Live Gold subscriptions, " ... increased more than 50 percent compared to last year?s Black Friday week."

In addition Hryb said:

  • We saw incredible activity on Xbox over the weekend. For example, on Sunday alone we had more than 14 million people on Xbox LIVE across the world, racking up more than 72 million hours of use in just one day.
  • Compared to 2011, we?ve seen a 43 percent increase in U.S. entertainment application hours logged on Xbox LIVE during the week of Black Friday.

Nintendo bragged on Monday that it had sold 400,000 units of its Wii U console during its launch week last week, along with 300,000 units of the older Wii console. If those numbers and those of Microsoft's are indeed true, it looks like the Xbox 360 will still be the best selling console in the US for the month of November. So far, Sony has yet to comment on sales of the PS3 and the PS Vita during Black Friday 2012 week.
