Kate Upton might be a shape shifter for Vogue

MONTREAL - Model Kate Upton has scored the January Vogue cover. She has had a good year, starting as the cover girl for Sports Illustrated?s swimsuit issue, dating Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander, and now this.

But many of the skinny creatures who pass as fashion models resent her, so Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman felt obliged to justify the choice:

?It?s very rare for a girl to move from one area of the business to the other ? fashion models are almost without curves, whereas swimwear girls are celebrated for them.?

She said she chose Upton precisely because she ?is not a stereotypical fashion model ? although, let?s face it, she?s hardly a heffalump!? Vogue?s parent company Cond? Nast has been campaigning against the ultra-skinny ideal in female body image.

Literary Review, in England, has given its 2012 Bad Sex in Fiction award to Calgary-born Nancy Huston, for her novel Infrared.

You can see why: ?Kamal and I are totally immersed in flesh, that archaic kingdom that brings forth tears and terrors, nightmares, babies and bedazzlements.?

Whew! I need a cigarette!

It?s all over, already, for Demi Moore and art dealer Vito Schnabel, son of painter Julian Schnabel.

Vic dumped her, Nameless Insider told the N.Y. Post, because she was bad for his image: ?Vito has worked very hard to be taken seriously in the art business, and doesn?t want to be seen as somebody who dates celebrities.?

He was at this Miami Art Basel thing, trying to make money, and she flew down there to party, and he flipped.

He?s 26. She?s 50.

News you need: A Japanese study has found that humulone, a compound found in hops, kills respiratory syncytial virus, something that can cause colds in adults and, in kids, severe pneumonia.

Yes indeed: beer keeps you healthy. True, the study was sponsored by a beer company, Sapporo. But still ?

The catch: it takes 10 litres of beer to provide any medical benefit. Still, if you?re off work sick anyway ?

It?s goooood to be famous: Beyonc? will graciously accept $50 million from Pepsi-Cola to renew her deal with them, the N.Y. Times reported.

She?ll become Pepsi?s ?brand ambassador? ? her face will be on the can, and she?ll be in ads next year, as her new album comes out.

She will also, this press release says, co-operate with the company on creative projects and social media events.

She?s 31.

The fuss over Modern Family starlet Ariel Winter and her mother grew wider the other day when Chrisoula Workman sued actor Matt Borlenghi for defamation for commenting, on the L.A. Times website, that Chris is an ?abusive monster? mom.

Borlenghi has little to do with Ariel, but teaches at an acting studio run by Ariel?s much-older sister Shanelle Gray, also estranged from Chris. A court gave Shanelle custody of Ariel after allegations of maternal abuse, mental and physical. Chris denies all that.

Ariel, just 14, earns more than everyone else in this item combined, which you have to think is the root of this mess.
